Overview
The All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) are a group of autonomous public medical universities of higher education under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. Established as Institutes of National Importance, AIIMS aims to provide high-quality medical education, research, and patient care. The flagship institute, AIIMS New Delhi, was established in 1956, and since then, multiple AIIMS have been established across India to promote equitable healthcare access. These institutes offer undergraduate (MBBS), postgraduate (MD, MS), super-specialty, and doctoral programs in various medical and allied health disciplines. AIIMS is renowned for its rigorous academic curriculum, state-of-the-art research facilities, and comprehensive healthcare services. Admission to AIIMS is highly competitive, attracting top-ranking students nationwide. The institutes are also involved in cutting-edge medical research and have contributed significantly to advancements in healthcare. With a commitment to excellence, AIIMS continues to be a premier destination for medical education and healthcare services in India.
Admissions
Admission to the MBBS program at AIIMS is based on the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) rankings. Candidates must have completed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English, securing a minimum of 50% aggregate marks (45% for OBC and 40% for SC/ST candidates). The selection process involves counseling sessions conducted by the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) based on NEET-UG scores. For postgraduate courses (MD, MS, MDS), candidates must qualify for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduates (NEET-PG). Eligibility criteria include an MBBS degree from a recognized institution and completion of a one-year compulsory rotating internship. The selection is based on NEET-PG rankings, followed by counseling sessions. AIIMS also offers super-specialty courses (DM, M.Ch.) and doctoral programs (Ph.D.), for which admissions are based on separate entrance examinations conducted by AIIMS or other relevant authorities. Prospective students are advised to regularly check the official AIIMS website or the respective institute's website for detailed information on eligibility criteria, application procedures, important dates, and updates regarding the admission process.
Scholarship
AIIMS offers various scholarships to support and encourage meritorious and financially needy students. The institute provides 329 different kinds of scholarships annually, including merit-based and need-based financial assistance. For undergraduate students, merit scholarships are awarded to those who achieve top ranks in their professional examinations. For instance, students securing the first and second positions in the first professional MBBS exam are eligible for monthly scholarships of Rs. 750 and Rs. 500, respectively, for one year. Additionally, AIIMS offers Post-Matric Scholarships and Merit-cum-Means Scholarship Schemes for Minority Communities to eligible students. These scholarships aim to alleviate financial burdens and promote academic excellence among students from diverse backgrounds. Students are encouraged to apply for these scholarships through the official AIIMS channels and provide the necessary documentation to demonstrate their eligibility. For detailed information on available scholarships, eligibility criteria, application procedures, and deadlines, students should refer to the official AIIMS website or contact the academic section of the respective AIIMS campus.
