Admissions
Admission to IITH's undergraduate programs is highly competitive and is primarily based on the performance in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced. Prospective students must first qualify the JEE Main examination to be eligible for JEE Advanced. The final selection is based on the All India Rank (AIR) obtained in JEE Advanced, followed by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counseling process.
For postgraduate programs like M.Tech, candidates are required to have a valid Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) score in the relevant discipline. Admission to the M.Des program is based on the Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) score, while M.Sc. admissions require a valid Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. (JAM) score. The M.A. in Development Studies program conducts its own entrance examination, followed by an interview.
Doctoral (Ph.D.) admissions are open to candidates with a strong academic background and a valid GATE or National Eligibility Test (NET) score. The selection process typically involves a written test and/or an interview conducted by the respective departments.

Scholarship
IITH offers various scholarships to support meritorious and financially needy students. The Merit-cum-Means (MCM) scholarship is available for General, General-EWS, and OBC category students whose parental gross income does not exceed ₹4.5 lakhs per annum. Eligible students must secure a Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) or Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 7.0 and above, with no active backlogs. Recipients of the MCM scholarship receive a pocket allowance of ₹1,000 per month.
For SC/ST category students, a dedicated scholarship is available under similar financial criteria. There is no cap on the number of SC/ST scholarships awarded, provided the eligibility conditions are met. Recipients are also required to maintain a minimum SGPA/CGPA of 7.0 and have no active backlogs.
Additionally, IITH accepts scholarships offered by the central and state governments, as well as other external agencies. Students are encouraged to explore and apply for these opportunities through the National Scholarship Portal and other relevant platforms. It's important to note that students are allowed to avail only one scholarship or financial aid at a time; simultaneous benefits from multiple sources are not permitted.
