Overview

Jamia Hamadard University was established in 1989 and is approved by UGC. Hamadard University is a Ministry of Education maintained deemed-to-be university that is managed by private trust known as the Hamdard National Foundation (HNF). Jamia Hamdard was conceived as a seat of higher learning in Unani Medicine, Islamic Studies, Biosciences, Pharmacy, Nursing and other areas of knowledge by its founder as a means of fulfilling the objects of the wakf. Jamia Hamdard, as it stands today, is a result of the foresight, vision, a rare sense of planning and execution and personal sacrifice of our Founder , Padma Bhushan (Late) Hakeem Abdul Hameed Sahib. A renowned unani physician , healer, philosopher- philanthropist and an institution builder, he considered education as the greatest equalizer and a tool of utmost empowerment. A " Hamdardian " in spirit and action he believed in "sympathy for all and sharing of pain" and considered the humanity itself as his constituency. While tirelessly working to bring the marginalized into the mainstream , he envisioned Jamia Hamdard as a unique seat of higher education which stands tall on scientific innovations while, remaining , strongly rooted to the rich Indian heritage .With just close to three decades of its existence as a "Deemed to be University"( established in 1989), Jamia Hamdard, verisimilarly reflects the exuberance, energy, dedication, diligence of the Nation's youth. Its continued perseverance and allegiance to the motto of "Excellence driven by compassion" , is poised to take it further into the higher echelons of global recognition in all spheres including research , education ,science and technology. Since, its inception, the university has continuously steered ahead through all challenges and earned laurels in forms of recognition by GoI, Global agencies and peers alike. The University has a distinction of being the first university in Delhi , NCR to present itself for NAAC accreditation, and successfully garnered an 'A' grade by NAAC and is very soon presenting itself for a third cycle . The high powered Tandon Committee , constituted by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) placed it amongst the Group I institutions while the National Institutional Ranking Framework, NIRF, conducted by the MHRD, GoI, declared Jamia Hamdard's School of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (Faculty of Pharmacy) at All India Rank I in 2017. Also, the receipt of the coveted DST- PURSE(Promotion of University Research and Scientific Excellence) grant is a laudable achievement. The university has eight Schools (Faculties) with distinct teaching and research programmes in fields of Pharmacy, Unani Medicine,Nursing, Management and information Technology, Federal Studies and Islamic Studies. Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (HIMSR) dedicated to modern medicine as approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI) is another feather in the cap of the University.Paramedical and Rehabilitation Sciences courses offered at HIMSR further fortify modern medical education. With an on- campus active research and academic collaborations with organizations of international repute such as Sun Pharma, Hilleman Labs Ltd.,and Becton Dickinson (BD) Biosciences, the university portrays the most conducive research ecology for nurturing talents to face global competition. The recent addition of Jamia Hamdard off campus in Kannur, Kerala with the approval of UGC and MHRD is focused at serving the educationally marginalized communities and is an another step towards "Being Hamdardian".
