Overview
The University has subsequently been recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC) in September 2011 u/s 22, u/s 12B in the year 2018 of the UGC Act of 1956 and Bar Council of India (BCI). NUSRL is established to develop a holistic perspective of legal education in all its ramifications particularly advocacy, judicial and legal institutional services, legislation, law reforms and all the research in these areas
NUSRL has been included as member of the CLAT w.e.f. CLAT 2012. At the undergraduate level,NUSRL offers five-year Integrated BA-LLB (Hons) degree programme, LLM as a PG course and PhD, a doctoral programme.

Admissions
Admission to NLU Ranchi is primarily based on the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) score. Candidates must meet the cutoff percentile set by the university, which varies yearly. The application process is conducted online through the CLAT consortium website. Eligibility criteria for UG programs include passing 10+2 with at least 45% (40% for reserved categories). For PG programs, an LL.B. degree with at least 50% marks is required. Reservation policies apply as per government norms. The selection process includes merit-based shortlisting through CLAT scores, followed by counseling and document verification.
Scholarship
NLU Ranchi offers various scholarships to meritorious and financially needy students. Government-funded schemes such as National Scholarship Portal (NSP) scholarships are available for SC/ST/OBC students. Additionally, students from economically weaker sections (EWS) can apply for fee waivers and state government scholarships.
